- Experience with Java or Scala will help you make a real difference in how Workday delivers search.
- Experience with any of Elasticsearch, Lucene, Solr or similar search technologies would be beneficial.
- The team mainly develops in Scala, however we are interested in speaking to talented engineers with experience in other languages.
- Experience working in distributed, backend systems as well as large codebases and of continuous integration concepts.
- An understanding of SaaS applications and concepts would be beneficial, as would exposure to microservices and SOA.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to work well within a team.
- Have extensive experience of microservice architectures and have experience working with databases containing reasonably big (>1M rows) datasets.
- Be comfortable working in codebases potentially containing >200,000 lines of code.
- Have prior experience of information retrieval systems and may have been a committer to Lucene/Elasticsearch/Solr core
- 3+ years of software engineering experience
- 3+ years of distributed systems engineering experience utilizing one or more of the following: Java, Scala, Python, Golang
- Degree in Computer Science or related field and relevant software development experience
- Query processing experience
- Linux expertise
- Good grasp of SQL and distributed data processing

Our team is responsible for solving complex and interesting search problems across large datasets, providing search functionality across the Workday application stack. At massive scale, we contribute to the technology behind data normalization, search relevance, recommendation systems and machine learning with the goal of making enterprise in the cloud more inquisitive.
